Oil painting on canvas, thick impasto brushwork visible in raking light. A harbour at the end of the day, fishing boats with their hulls built from a few loaded strokes, the water a broken surface of short horizontal marks, the sky knifed on in pale layers. Edges lost where warm meets warm, the canvas weave showing through in the thinnest passages.

Rain falling on a canal at dusk, the pigment allowed to bloom and granulate where each drop lands on the water, reflections of lit windows pulled downward in wet-on-wet streaks. Edges left unresolved, the brightest reflections reserved as bare paper.

A bicycle leaning against a lamppost on a quiet street, the wheels drawn as confident ellipses, the buildings behind suggested by a handful of lines and left mostly as empty paper. No hatching, no colour, no fill.
